Hold a private light on a Michigan shore?

Perils!!!

Posted in pics, words by deneb150 on July 23rd, 2008

Today’s bike ride was fraught with peril! Clouds of extremely annoying mosquitoes swarmed around me as I tried to do some exploring off the beaten (paved) path of my normal ride! Then, my shoelace got caught in my gears! Also, my camelback liner thing was leaking in my backpack! Water was dangerously close to my camera! To top if all off, as I was riding slowly and no-handed through this one part while taking my sunglasses off some old guy came out of nowhere and scared the crap out of me! I almost veered off straight into some bushes! Geez!

Admit One Dreamer.

Magnetic Field

Yesterday we went to see the Hunter S. Thompson documentary at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. It was excellent! Easily the awesomest biographical documentary I’ve seen in a long time. But, as LeVar Burton always said while hosting Reading Rainbow: Don’t take my word for it! I am no movie critic, go see it yourself. After the movie and a quick stop in Ypsilanti (worst town ever btw, but worth the stop), we headed back to my house where things got…a little crazy (and fun). Today I’ve just been cleaning and sitting around while drinking wine and iced tea. Pretty good times I must say. Also I went on a bike ride with Chris to a field! That’s right, a field. Geez, where will I go next?! I’m crazy!

Where I stand.

So tonigHOLY FUCK A BIG BLACK SPIDER JUST CRAWLED OUT FROM UNDER MY LAPTOP AND RAN DOWN MY DESK THEN TRIED TO HIDE UNDER THE CARPET BUT I GOT IT OUT AND THEN CHASED IT ACROSS THE ROOM WITH MY SHOE AND KILLED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways ladies and gents, every day is an adventure. I found the broken window you see in the photo above today at an abandoned hotel in Dearborn. There was something very strange about it. It was so unstable that it was somehow making audible sounds. I mean you could stand there and actually hear the glass struggling to stay up and together as gravity pulled slowly and relentlessly on it. At any point it could have completely collapsed into a billion pieces all over the ground. In fact, it probably already has.

So now I will quote, if I may, the late Hunter S. Thompson:

“The Edge… there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others-the living-are those who pushed their control as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between now and later.”

And today I devised a way to bring my camera and my water thing on bike rides. It is absolutely genius! Weee! Now the internets can reap the benefits. Reap them!:

The Peugeot.

Where one there was a bridge…

…there is now progress.

Peace of neglect at dusk.

Good Things!

1.  I am making money.  The job is stupid, but it’s easy and I am being paid.  Also, I will only be working there until mid-August because:

2.  I am officially going to Burning Man!  Why?  Becuase I feel like it, and it is going to be awesome, and I always need more excitement in my life which I’m sure will be provided.  Also, it is (sort of..kind of..) on the way to Washington, where I will be:

3.  living for like a month(?) while trying to get a job in Portland/Seattle/wherever I can which means that:

4.  it is likely that I will be moving somewhere that isn’t crappy Michigan very soon.

Those four things are kind of interconnected, I guess.  Everything came together in a rush of impulsive decision making which culminated in me buying my Burning Man ticket.  Needless to say I am very excited.

More cool photos will be posted sometime soon.  I wish I had a camera that was easier to take on bike rides.  I went on a 65-mile ride to Ann Arbor and back on July 4th and saw lots of things I wanted to take pictures of.  Maybe I will do it again this weekend and bring my camera with me, even if it’s really uncomfortable.  This blog needs more cool shit like the book depository on it.
